Jumping into Web 2.0
Waypoint has begun our entry into Web 2.0 and social networking. I have to admit this is new territory for us and it has been interesting seeing how it has captured the attention of so many folks, but especially business.
I think we are like many others and trying to figure out if does it have value or if it is just another fad (like this dang Internet thing that I don’t think will really take off). We have stayed with the mainstream tools like blogging, tweeting, facebooking, and LinkedIn. As we get comfortable with these we will start to branch out.
Part of what we want to explore is how does one take advantage of it, does it bring business value, and then what can we share with our clients. My journey started with the US board meeting of the IAMCP when I was dragged into Facebook so we could all start sharing activities. I say dragged because it was hard for me understand why I would want to share a play by play on my life and why anyone would want to keep up with it.
Now it has been somewhat interesting to reconnect with folks from the past and it is helpful to stay connected with people I have met more recently. While social network and Web 2.0 tools carry merit, I am not sure how it will mature or how truely long it will last until it morphs into something different.
What about your organization? Are you using or developing your virtual social network? Is it mostly personal or are you gaining business value? Let us know and we will revisit this topic in a few months and see what we have learned.
