Global Flow Technologies
The Situation
Global Flow Technologies, headquartered in Stafford, Texas, grew over the past six years much like other companies – through a series of mergers and acquisitions of multiple organizations. Consequently, their IT infrastructure consisted of legacy systems and applications, primarily in the Windows 2003 family. Their data center resembled more of a server room with freestanding, ad hoc cooling units. The company decided it was time to unite the conglomeration and establish a true corporate network so they could deploy a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) program. They brought in Waypoint Business Solutions to help plan and launch the new IT set-up, in addition to implementing virtualization.
The Solution
Because Global Flow Technologies had already completed the discovery phase, Waypoint quickly got involved in the design of the new infrastructure. Working onsite in Global Flow Technologies’ headquarters and other offices, they determined how best to implement the changes so that the new system could easily handle the migration of nearly 250 users to the new corporate network and upgrade Exchange, SQL and Windows, while supporting the new ERP product.
The Benefit
In addition to implementing Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology in the corporate infrastructure, Waypoint successfully created a new Active Directory and Exchange environment. They also created a SAN environment with Dell EqualLogic. Global Flow Technologies now has a more centralized, secure infrastructure that can easily handle the company’s future growth.
